HISTORY OF FOUNDATION

Alright guys, lets proceed with SEALs 101. In the previous entry I have revealed what is SEALs Team Six and their ‘jobs description, so it is the time to learn about their history of foundation.

Following the event of Iran hostage crisis in 1979, which took place in U.S Embassy in Tehran which ended up pretty badly, U.S Navy saw the need for a full-time counter-terrorism unit with special tactics and equipment for specific operations.

Department of Defence had given the greenlight to U.S Navy to begin the project and Richard Marcinko, U.S Navy representatives for Joint Chief of Staff in the Iran hostage crisis is tasked of its design and development.

The unit's plankowners were hand-picked by Marcinko from throughout the UDT/SEAL community. SEAL Team Six became the U.S. Navy's premier counter-terrorist unit. It has been compared to the U.S. Army's Delta Force. Marcinko held the command of SEAL Team Six for three years, from 1980 to 1983, instead of the typical two-year command in the Navy at the time. SEAL Team Six was formally created in October 1980, and an intense, progressive work-up training program made the unit mission-ready just six months later with only 75 operators.
